This web quest is for sixth grade students

Objectives

Students will:

  • identify one specific endangered animal.

  • understand why that animal is endangered.

  • discover laws and organizations that help protect that animal.

Assessment

Teacher will:

  • evaluate students animal choice based on their notes the letter the student creates.

  • evaluate students understanding of endangerment of animals based on their letter to the newspaper.

  • evaluate students understanding of laws and organizations that help protect endangered animals based on their letter to the newspaper.

 

Science Standards

NS. 5-8.1 Science as inquiry:  Students should develop abilities necessary to do scientific inquiry and understandings about scientific inquiry.

NS. 5-8.3 Life Science:  Students should develop an understanding of structure and function in living systems, populations and ecosystems, diversity and adaptations of organisms.

NS. 5-8.5 Science and Technology:  Students should develop an ability of technological design and understandings about science and technology.

 

Language Art Standards

Standard 4.  Students adjust their use of spoken, written, and visual language (e.g., conventions, style, vocabulary) to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and for different purposes.

Standard 7.  Students conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources (e.g., print and non-print texts, artifacts, people) to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience.

Standard 8.  Students use a variety of technological and information resources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, video) to gather and synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge.
