Roger EbertzHi!  Welcome to my web site!  And welcome to the Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of Dubuque!  As a Professor and Head of the Department, I am glad to be a part of the diverse community called the University of Dubuque.  UD is a small, Christian university affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  Our mission at UD is to provide quality professional preparation with a strong liberal arts foundation.  As a campus community, we both value our Reformed theological heritage and welcome diversity of perspectives. In the Department of Philosophy and Religion, we offer majors in philosophy and religion, and serve the entire campus through teaching courses in the core curriculum.

Who am I? Among other things, I am a Christian philosopher.  As a Christian, I find myself caught up by God's love and I seek to follow Jesus Christ in the world today.  As a philosopher, I find myself constantly reflecting upon ideas and beliefs.  My vocation as a professional philosopher places me in an exciting intersection of these two aspects of my self.  I attempt to integrate faith and learning, philosophy and Christian understanding, thinking and living. My position gives me opportunities to explore a diverse range of topics in connection with my teaching and scholarship.   My most recent writing projects are in the areas of evironmental philosophy and philosophical themes in popular culture.  I have ongoing research interests in epistemology, ethics and the history of philosophy as well.

This personal web site is intended to provide links and information for students and other interested internet users.  I also use it as a way to make a few of my unpublished papers and essays available to those who are interested.  The views I express on this personal page and in my papers are my own,  The views expressed in articles and web pages to which I provide links do not necessarily reflect my own beliefs, but are linked because I think they may be of value to my students and others in some way.  The ideas expressed on this page should not be taken to represent the views of the University as a whole.
