Swiss Valley Outing and Data



Purpose: To learn about the application of GIS in Dubuque County and to obtain GPS data of trails in the Swiss Valley Nature Preserve.

Procedure:
  1. Gather GPS data along a trail in Swiss Valley
  2. Transfer that data from the unit to our PC
    • Can be done by cable using software available on the G: drive (but students may be unable to install it!)
    • Can be done by creating an Excel spreadsheet, converting it to decimal form, exporting it to a CSV file. (An example is on the G: drive)
  3. Import the data into ArcMap.
  4. If necessary, create a shape file like we did last week and trace your route.
